Tombe de Émile Durkheim

historic

The gravestone of Émile Durkheim sits in the Montparnasse Cemetery, marked by a plain, granite slab engraved with his name and dates. Unlike the elaborate mausoleums nearby, his plot reflects the grounded approach of a man who spent his life analyzing the social bonds that hold communities together. He died in nineteen seventeen, exhausted by the grief of losing his son in the trenches of the First World War. His burial site serves as the final resting place for the father of sociology.
