Jardins d'Eole

The Jardins d’Eole stretches across a long, narrow strip of land carved out from old railway infrastructure in the eighteenth arrondissement. Beneath the surface lie the skeletons of the former Pajol freight yard, which served as a major artery for coal delivery to Paris for decades. In the late nineteen nineties, landscape architects converted this industrial wasteland into a terraced public park. It remains one of the few places in the city where the history of railway transport dictates the layout of the flowerbeds.
