Museum of Freemasonry

The Musée de la Franc-Maçonnerie occupies a suite of rooms inside the Grand Orient de France headquarters. Its exterior features a discreet plaque marking the entrance to a building that serves as the heart of French Freemasonry. Inside, the collection holds a heavy, leather-bound apron once worn by Voltaire, who was initiated into the order in seventeen seventy-eight. While his peers focused on political upheaval, Voltaire joined a lodge that viewed secular debate as the primary path toward social progress.
