Square Alexandre Luquet

park garden

The heavy iron gates of Square Alexandre Luquet open onto a steep, terraced garden tucked into the side of the Belleville hill. A bronze bust of Alexandre Luquet sits near the entrance, marking the memory of a local soldier and city councilor who died in nineteen twenty-four. Before this became a public garden, the land held a cluster of old workshops and cramped houses typical of the neighborhood. The city cleared those structures to create this breathing space for the local residents.
