The space you are entering, officially named Square Thomas Jefferson, occupies the center of the Place des États-Unis. It is a quiet, tree-lined pocket park that serves as a focal point for Franco-American history in the sixteenth arrondissement. While you are walking through its pathways, you are actually standing on ground that once held the massive water reservoirs of Chaillot, which supplied water to the right bank of the city until the mid-nineteenth century.
