Théâtre des Abbesses

The Théâtre des Abbesses sits on a site that was once a bustling commercial hub for local butchers and grocers. In the late twentieth century, the city of Paris transformed this plot into a contemporary performance space. Architect Charles Vandenhove designed the building in a post-modern neoclassical style. He intentionally kept the structure low-profile to preserve the historic sightlines of the Bateau-Lavoir, the legendary studio complex further up the hill where many famous artists once lived.
