Église Saint-Médard

The stone facade of the Église Saint-Médard hides behind a heavy, arched doorway, but the low, square bell tower rising above the roofline gives it away. While most of Paris moved toward grander architectural styles, this church remained a quiet, neighborhood sanctuary for local weavers and laborers. In the seventeen thirties, the churchyard became the site of a bizarre phenomenon when crowds gathered to witness supposed miraculous healings at the grave of a deacon named François de Pâris. The authorities eventually locked the gates.
