Théâtre Mouffetard

The Théâtre Mouffetard sits behind a plain, unassuming facade on Rue Mouffetard, marked by its simple red marquee. It began life in the nineteenth century as a neighborhood cinema, serving the working-class families of the Fifth Arrondissement. In the nineteen seventies, the building shifted its focus entirely to puppet theater and marionettes. Every year, the theater holds the Festival Mondial des Théâtres de Marionnettes, where artists from across the globe gather to bring small wooden figures to life on this compact stage.
