Samuel Beckett is buried here under a flat, unadorned slab of grey granite that he specifically requested. Before his death, he instructed that his gravestone be any color as long as it was grey, a final gesture that matched the austere and minimalist tone of his writing. He shares this resting place with his wife, Suzanne Dechevaux-Dumesnil, who died just a few months before him in 1989.
