You are standing in a place that has been continuously reinvented for centuries. Long before it became a literary destination, this land was a quarry, providing the very sand and gravel that paved the winding paths of the surrounding Bois de Boulogne. In the mid-nineteenth century, it shed its industrial past to become an eclectic amusement park, where visitors once rode merry-go-rounds and drank fresh milk at a local dairy. That park eventually featured a theater known as the Floral Theater, a popular stage where performers like Claude Debussy once entertained audiences.
