Church of Saint-Bernard de la Chapelle

The Church of Saint-Bernard de la Chapelle stands in the Goutte d'Or neighborhood as a striking example of nineteenth-century Gothic Revival architecture. Built between 1858 and 1861 under the direction of Baron Haussmann, the structure was commissioned to serve the rapidly growing population that settled in the area following the construction of the nearby Gare du Nord railway station. Its designer, the architect Auguste-Joseph Magne, utilized soaring pointed arches, slender clustered columns, and expansive rib vaulting to create an interior that captured the renewed French fascination with medieval ecclesiastical styles. Today, the church is recognized as a historic monument and remains a visual anchor for one of the most ethnically diverse districts in Paris.
