Les petites ecuries gate

The courtyard you are approaching, the Cour des Petites Écuries, occupies land once belonging to the legendary seventeenth-century salonnière and writer Ninon de Lenclos. By 1780, the site had been repurposed to house the overflow of the royal stables, where horses and carriages for the king were kept. This administrative connection to the royal household gave the location its name, which has persisted through centuries of urban transformation.
