Théâtre Déjazet

The Théâtre Déjazet is the last survivor of the Boulevard du Temple, a famous nineteenth-century street once known as the Boulevard du Crime. This nickname came from the many melodramas filled with murder and intrigue performed nightly in the row of theaters that once lined the boulevard. While all other venues on this street were demolished during the grand urban renovations led by Baron Haussmann in the eighteen sixties, this specific building escaped destruction by standing on a side of the street that was spared from the wrecking balls.
