Square Marguerite Long

Square Marguerite Long is named after one of the most influential French pianists and teachers of the twentieth century. Marguerite Long was a legendary figure in the music world who gained fame for her interpretations of works by composers like Claude Debussy, Gabriel Fauré, and Maurice Ravel. She was such a close confidante to Maurice Ravel that he dedicated his famous Piano Concerto in G Major to her, and she premiered the work under his direction in the early nineteen thirties. Beyond her performing career, she left a lasting mark on music education by establishing a prestigious international competition for violinists and pianists alongside the violinist Jacques Thibaud in nineteen forty-three. She taught at the Paris Conservatoire for decades and mentored a generation of world-class pianists who carried her rigorous technical standards across the globe.
