Cabaret de L'Enfer

You are approaching the site of the legendary Cabaret de L'Enfer, a place that defined the dark, theatrical spirit of the Belle Epoque. To enter this establishment, visitors had to walk directly into the gaping, monstrous jaws of a giant Leviathan, a facade designed to look like the entrance to a soul-devouring hell. Founded in eighteen ninety-two by a former literature professor named Antonin Alexander, the cabaret was a precursor to modern theme restaurants, relying on immersive, macabre spectacle to draw in crowds. Alexander himself would often greet guests while dressed as Mephistopheles, the devilish prince of the underworld, inviting them to enter and be damned.
