Trigonion Tower

The Trigonion Tower rises as a heavy, semicircular stone bastion at the northeast corner of the Byzantine walls of Thessaloniki. Sultan Murad the Second ordered its construction in the mid-fifteenth century to better withstand the new threat of cannon fire. During the Ottoman siege of fourteen thirty, the sultan placed his artillery batteries on the high ground right here to batter the city defenses. His engineers eventually reinforced this specific point with thick masonry, turning a weak link into the tower you see today.
