Bey Hamam (Paradise Baths)

The Bey Hamam features a double structure with separate entrances for men and women, capped by a series of brick domes that rise above the surrounding street level. Built in fourteen forty-four by Sultan Murad the Second, this was the first Ottoman bathhouse constructed in Thessaloniki. Sultan Murad commissioned the building to provide the city with a place for social gathering and hygiene. Locals once knew it as the Baths of Paradise, a name carved into the stone above the main entrance.
