Royal Theatre of Thessaloniki

The Royal Theatre of Thessaloniki sits on the waterfront, distinguished by the massive, curved concrete colonnade that wraps around its facade. Designed by architect Kostas Kitsikis, the building opened in nineteen forty, though the German occupation immediately turned it into a cinema for soldiers. After the war, it became the home of the National Theatre of Northern Greece. In nineteen sixty-eight, a fire gutted the interior, leaving only those outer columns standing until the structure was fully rebuilt and reopened in two thousand three.
