"Yad Lezicaron" Synagogue

The Yad Lezicaron Synagogue sits behind a plain, unassuming facade on Vasileos Irakliou Street. Most of the city’s historic Jewish houses of worship vanished during the German occupation, but this building remains a sanctuary. It was established in the nineteen twenties by refugees from Monastir, who brought their traditions and prayer books across the border to Thessaloniki. Inside, the space holds the legacy of a community that rebuilt its religious life after losing almost everything in the Second World War.
