Ottoman Pazar Hamam (Yahudi Hamam)

The Ottoman Pazar Hamam features a rhythmic pattern of two large, lead-covered domes that break the horizon line of the city center. Built in the fifteenth century by a high-ranking official of Sultan Murad the Second, the structure functioned as a public bath for residents. Its plumbing relied on an elaborate system of subterranean brick channels to circulate heated air beneath the marble floors. Eventually, the building stopped serving as a bathhouse, and shopkeepers occupied the individual rooms for decades of daily commerce.
