Alexander the Great Statue

A bronze Alexander the Great sits atop his horse Bucephalus, his hand stretched toward the sea as if still leading his men into battle. This six-meter statue dominates the waterfront of Thessaloniki, serving as a constant reminder of the city's connection to the Macedonian king. Sculptor Evangelos Moustakas cast the monument in nineteen seventy-three, placing it here to reclaim the hero for the local landscape. Before it stood here, plans for the statue faced years of bureaucratic delays and public debates.
