Aladja Imaret (Ishak Pasha Mosque)

The Aladja Imaret features a distinctive porch with five small domes and a jagged, colorful zigzag pattern of brick and stone along its minaret. Ishak Pasha ordered its construction in fourteen eighty-four, intending it as a soup kitchen for the poor alongside a place of prayer. The name translates to colorful mosque, a nod to the painted decorations that once covered its walls. It served the city for centuries before a massive earthquake in nineteen seventy-eight left it in need of extensive repairs.
