Ófelia Cat

landmark

A mural of a calico cat stretches across the side of this building, its oversized paws resting near the foundation while its eyes watch over the street. This street art commemorates a real cat named Ofelia who spent her days patrolling this corner of Reykjavík. Local residents recall her perched on windowsills or weaving through the legs of pedestrians. When she died, the neighborhood commissioned this portrait so that Ofelia would remain a fixture of the block long after she was gone.
