Dómkirkjan í Reykjavík

The Reykjavik Cathedral is a simple, white neoclassical building with a dark, slate-grey roof that stands out against the colorful corrugated iron houses of the old city. When it was built in the seventeen nineties, it housed the island’s first printing press, which had been hauled all the way from Copenhagen. The building served as a lighthouse for the intellectual life of the nation, housing the first Icelandic newspaper and the Althingi, the national parliament, for several decades before they moved to their own building.
