Odinn Coast Guard Vessel

landmark

The Odinn is a rugged steel vessel painted in high-visibility orange and black, permanently docked at the Reykjavík harbor. This ship served as an Icelandic Coast Guard cruiser for over forty years, patrolling the North Atlantic during the intense Cod Wars against the British Royal Navy. During one confrontation, a British frigate rammed the Odinn, leaving a deep, jagged dent in its hull. That scar remains on the port side, a physical record of the struggle to protect Iceland’s vital fishing grounds.
