Gröf

The stone foundation of Gröf rests on the edge of the coastline, marked by the thick, turf-covered walls typical of traditional Icelandic architecture. This site served as a church and a center of local influence for centuries. During the seventeenth century, it housed a prominent figure, Björn Jónsson, who recorded contemporary accounts of Icelandic life and weather patterns. These records provide a rare glimpse into the daily struggles of inhabitants during the Little Ice Age, when sea ice often trapped ships in the nearby harbor.
