Viking Mural

landmark

The Viking mural on the wall of the Old Harbour district spans several stories, featuring a bold, stylized depiction of Norse seafarers navigating turbulent seas. It was painted by the artist Guido van Helten, who used large-scale monochrome tones to mimic the texture of historical photographs against the weathered concrete. While many street art pieces here fade after a season, this work captures a specific connection between Iceland’s maritime past and its modern identity, turning a plain industrial surface into a towering tribute.
