Ingólfsgarður Lighthouse

The Ingólfsgarður lighthouse sits at the end of the long, narrow breakwater reaching into the harbor of Reykjavík. It is a sturdy, white concrete tower with a distinct red lantern room. Built in nineteen oh six, it guided ships into the growing port during a time when Iceland was shifting from small-scale fishing to an industrial economy. Lighthouse keeper Jónas Hallgrímsson lived on-site, tasked with keeping the lamp burning through the brutal winter storms that often battered this exposed concrete pier.
