Shahi Jama Masjid Agra

religious

The Shahi Jama Masjid features a prominent facade of red sandstone inlaid with white marble, topped by three large bulbous domes. Jahanara Begum, the eldest daughter of Shah Jahan, commissioned this mosque in sixteen forty-eight. She spent five years and five hundred thousand rupees on the construction to serve the people of Agra. While the Taj Mahal often draws the focus, this mosque marks a moment where a royal woman exerted her own influence on the city's religious and social landscape.
