The central building of Saint Xavier’s College features a distinctive red brick facade with tall, pointed arches that mimic the Gothic style of European cathedrals. Established in eighteen sixty by Jesuit priests, the college grew from a small rented house into one of the most prominent academic institutions in India. Father Henry Depelchin, its first rector, famously bought the original site with funds collected from the local community. Generations of students have crossed these thresholds, including the writer Rabindranath Tagore, who briefly attended classes here.
