Chamba Lama

The Chamba Lama statue stands as a bronze figure of the Buddha, perched atop a modest pedestal near the busy intersection of Dharmatala. It arrived in Kolkata during the nineteen thirties, a gift from the monastery of Chamba in Tibet. Merchants brought the statue here to serve the spiritual needs of the local Tibetan community, which frequently traveled through the city for trade. For decades, it has remained a quiet presence amidst the persistent roar of traffic and the surrounding city crowds.
