Tiretti Bazaar Chinese Breakfast

food drink

Poddar Court holds the remnants of the Tiretti Bazaar, where generations of Kolkata’s Chinese community gathered before dawn to sell traditional pork baos and fish ball soup. Every morning, street vendors set up their stoves on the cracked pavement to serve breakfast to the neighborhood. The market started when Chinese immigrants settled in the area during the nineteenth century, establishing a local supply chain for the leather, restaurant, and dentistry trades that defined their presence in the city for decades.
