Writers' Buildings Kolkata

The Writers' Buildings stretches along the northern edge of B. B. D. Bagh with a long, uniform red facade of arches and Ionic columns. Originally built in seventeen eighty as a dormitory for the low-level clerks—the writers—of the East India Company, it grew over the decades into the seat of the Bengal government. In nineteen thirty, three revolutionaries named Benoy, Badal, and Dinesh stormed the building, executing the Inspector General of Prisons in his office to protest British colonial rule.
