G. C. Laha Private Limited sits behind a narrow, unassuming storefront on Dharmatala Street, its windows crowded with glass jars of pigments, oil paints, and brushes. Gopal Chandra Laha founded this shop in nineteen oh five to supply the booming demand for art materials among the city's growing class of painters. When the legendary artist Abanindranath Tagore needed specific mineral pigments for his wash technique, he came here. The shop remains a quiet, dusty holdout where the smell of linseed oil persists.
