Currency Building

The Currency Building in Lal Bazar features a distinct Venetian-style facade with three massive arched gateways and a distinct yellow and red exterior. Built in eighteen thirty-three, it originally served as the Agra Bank before the government transformed it into the Office of the Issue Department of the Paper Currency. During the colonial era, this was where the British authorities managed the printing and circulation of banknotes, keeping a tight grip on the financial pulse of the city from behind these heavy stone walls.
