Metropolitan Building.

The Metropolitan Building stands out with its white facade, distinctive corner dome, and a grand clock tower that has watched over the intersection for over a century. Originally built in nineteen oh five for the Whiteway Laidlaw department store, it housed the city’s first elevator. The building served the colonial elite with imported European goods, but the architect Frederick William Stevens designed it to blend Renaissance and Indian styles. A fierce fire gutted the interior in the late twentieth century, changing the structure forever.
