Allen Park

park garden

Allen Park is a small, triangular green space defined by the junction of Park Street and Middleton Street in central Kolkata. In the nineteen thirties, the city dedicated this plot to the memory of Reverend James Long, a British missionary who fought for the rights of Bengali indigo farmers. Today, the park serves as an informal staging ground for street musicians, pavement artists, and city residents who gather here beneath the spreading canopy of ancient rain trees that shade the busy intersection.
