The Kyu-Nagayama Takeshiro Residence stands out for its hybrid architecture, blending a traditional Japanese wooden dwelling with a Western-style reception wing painted a striking, pale blue. It served as the private home for Nagayama Takeshiro, the second commander of the Hokkaido Development Commission. Nagayama famously hosted high-ranking officials and dignitaries in the Western wing, while retreating to the Japanese rooms to sleep and relax. The house still retains the original sliding doors and intricate wooden carvings from his time there.
