The Hokkaido University Information Center occupies the Elm Forest, recognizable by its unassuming, low profile tucked beneath the canopy of towering elm trees. This site served as the university's original agricultural museum, built in eighteen eighty-four. When the campus moved and expanded, laborers dismantled the wooden structure and moved it piece by piece to this spot. It houses exhibitions on the university's early research, which turned this harsh northern landscape into the foundation for Japan’s modern dairy and farming industries.
