The five hundred meter museum is a long, narrow art gallery stretching beneath the ground, connecting the Odori and Bus Center Mae subway stations. It occupies what would otherwise be a blank, utilitarian pedestrian walkway. Walls are lined with large-scale murals, photography, and rotating contemporary installations that span hundreds of meters. In two thousand six, the city converted this transit corridor into an exhibition space to give local Sapporo artists a place to show their work in a climate-controlled environment through the winter.
