The Ladrio building is a narrow, three-story structure clad in dark, rough-textured tiles that stand out against the surrounding concrete storefronts. Inside, the original creaky wooden floors and heavy, dark furniture remain from nineteen forty-nine, when it first opened as a coffee shop. It served as a gathering point for writers and intellectuals who fled the smoke-filled cafes of nearby areas to debate literature over dark roast coffee. Those customers still occupy the same creaky chairs today.
