A bright red sign with bold white Chinese characters hangs above the entrance of Nam Kee. Inside, the walls are covered in photos of local celebrities and a famous Dutch book cover that turned this humble noodle shop into a literary icon. When the novelist Rene Stigter featured the restaurant in his work during the nineteen eighties, it became a fixture of the city's nightlife. Patrons still crowd the small tables for the signature oyster dish that launched the restaurant into local legend.
