The National Holocaust Names Monument consists of four Hebrew letters constructed from mirror-polished stainless steel, forming the word for in memory of. Each letter functions as a freestanding maze of brick walls. More than one hundred thousand bricks are individually inscribed with the name, date of birth, and age at death of a Jewish, Sinti, or Roma victim from the Netherlands. The monument occupies the space between the Portuguese Synagogue and the Hermitage museum, marking the site of the Jewish Quarter.
