Westerkerk

The Westerkerk features an open, crown-topped spire that rises nearly three hundred feet above the Prinsengracht canal. This seventeenth-century Protestant church serves as the final resting place of Rembrandt van Rijn, who was buried here in an unmarked grave in sixteen sixty-nine. While the church remains a center for local congregants, the tower acts as a landmark for the entire city, visible from miles away. The bells still ring out across the water, keeping the time much as they did four centuries ago.
