Zuiderkerk

The Zuiderkerk features a tall, stone tower that dominates the skyline of the former Saint Anthony district. Completed in sixteen eleven, this was the first church in Amsterdam built specifically for Protestant services after the Reformation. Hendrick de Keyser designed the structure, blending classical elements with traditional Dutch brickwork. Rembrandt van Rijn lived right around the corner, and he buried three of his children within these walls. The church eventually stopped holding services in nineteen twenty-nine, and it now serves as a municipal information center.
