National Holocaust Museum

The National Holocaust Museum occupies the former Hervormde Kweekschool, a brick building recognizable by the stone plaque embedded in its facade. During the second world war, this teachers college stood directly across from the Hollandsche Schouwburg, a theater where Nazis detained Jewish families before deportation. A narrow passage connected the school to the theater grounds. Resistance members smuggled hundreds of children through this gap, hiding them in the school before moving them to safety in the Dutch countryside.
