Antes Art 1900

other

The facade at Sweelinckplein displays a collection of hand-painted tiles arranged in a grid across the brickwork. These ceramics feature stylized sunflowers, winding vines, and birds, echoing the popular Art Nouveau aesthetic of the turn of the twentieth century. Built in nineteen oh three by architect Jan Willem Bosboom, the building served as a private residence before finding its current life as an art gallery. The exterior ornamentation mirrors the ornamental detail favored by wealthy residents of the Statenkwartier neighborhood during that era.
