Sanqing Hall

The Sanqing Hall sits on a steep stone terrace, marked by a heavy, upturned eave roof that appears to tilt against the slope of the hill. Originally built as a center for Taoist ritual in the early eighteenth century, it survived the massive nineteen ninety-six earthquake that leveled much of the surrounding historic district. While local families lost their homes, the hall remained standing, anchored by massive wooden pillars that held steady while the ground shifted beneath them.
