Monument of Alexander Fredro

The bronze figure of Alexander Fredro sits in a high-backed armchair, holding a quill and a scroll of his own comedies. He spent his life writing plays that poked fun at the Polish nobility. Originally cast in eighteen seventy-nine for the city of Lviv, the monument traveled thousands of miles after the Second World War. It arrived in Wroclaw in nineteen fifty-six, packed in a wooden crate, as a gift from the people of Lviv to replace the city’s lost monuments.
