The low, stone-walled structure in Hwango-dong known as Jeongsang sits tucked away from the main tourist paths. It functions as a private space, but the heavy timber rafters and traditional tiled roof hold a direct connection to the old architecture of Gyeongju. Decades ago, the master builder who oversaw its layout insisted on using reclaimed wood from fallen temple beams. He believed the timber carried the weight of centuries, and he refused to let it rot in a pile.
